Visas in Thailand -  Thailand visas - retirement - married - marriage arrangement - ED Visa

General Information - Sorry, no responsibility for Errors & Omissions, this is Amazing Thailand!
All visitors to Thailand (known as aliens) require permission to enter. This must not be confused with a visa which is totally different.
For most nationalities (see Dept of Consular Affairs 06.06.08 sheet) they will receive a 30 day permission to stay on arrival by air. Under rules issued 04.12.08 the so called 'visa runs' will allow a further 14 days only, if coming across a land border, 30 days will still be allowed via an airport entry. You will be limited to the number of visa runs you can make usually up to four

If you want to come for longer or for a particular purpose then you should apply in your country of origin before you depart for the type of visa you require

Many of you will notice the use of words such as 'should', 'normally', so if for any reason you do not have funds or correct visa or are still unsure then call in to see us, we can usually sort everything out - our Thai Team are specialists in this department and our office is only 50 metres from Chonburi Immigration - we can usually supply whatever you require and usually in a couple of days - So the official way

60 day tourist visa TR

Should be obtained before arrival, a 60 day permission to stay will be stamped - can apply to an Immigration office for further permission to stay 30 days and then - can apply to an Immigration office for further permission to stay 7 days. From some consulates you can apply for two/three TR visas giving you longer but you will need to leave the country on expiry of first visa (or after having obtained a further 30 day extension) and come back on the second one

Non-Immigrant ‘O’ Visa

Should be applied for in country of residence before coming to Thailand – single entry will give permission to stay 90 days. With a multiple entry you have to leave before each 90 days but can return as many times during the validity of the visa - can apply to an Immigration office for further permission to stay 7 days and then must leave the country

Non-Immigrant ‘B’ Visa

Should be applied for in country of residence before coming to Thailand – single entry will give permission to stay 90 days and then must leave the country. With a multiple entry you can return as many times during the validity of the visa – purpose for working in Thailand (see section on work permits)

Overstay

Overstays are serious if you want to come back to Thailand later. The fine is 500 Baht a day and/or a stay in the local jail if stopped

What are you hoping to do in Thailand
If it is for tourist reasons or short stay then see the above examples - if it is for

Retirement visa

You should obtain an 'O' visa before you come. We would suggest that unless you have prepared everything in advance such as money in the bank for three months then obtain a Multiple 'O', it will take the pressure off.  You then apply with all the 'bits of paper' (or ask our office) for a retirement visa assuming that you are over 50. Once you have the visa you can stay in the Kingdom for a year, all you have to do is report where you are every 90 days.

Marriage visa

Once again we would suggest as for retirement but definitely a multiple 'O' as it can take time and there is a lot of paperwork (or ask our office), you must be married thereafter reporting is the same
Both of the above need renewing before they run out

ED Visa

Also applicable for under 50's. We work with an educational establishment in Pattaya and Bangkok. Normally you can apply for Non 'O' before leaving your home country and then join the school. The cost for the lessons is around 28,000 ฿ (the visa is included) of which 50% is payable on application. This allows you to stay in Thailand for a year and renew subject to tests annually

WORK PERMITS – summary

Non-Immigrant ‘B’ Visa. Usually applied for in country of residence before coming to Thailand – this requires certain documents including a job offer. Normally the company that the alien will be working in must have a 2 million share capital company and there should be four Thai employees for every alien. However if the alien is married to a Thai the requirements on capital can be halved (or ask our office)

Whenever you get a retirement or marriage visa we recommend you also apply for a Re-entry permit, single or multiple, without this should you leave the country your visa becomes invalid and you have to do it all over again -YOU READ IT HERE

What else do you want to do in Thailand - well we mean with visas etc

Getting married

We have a full service that will save you travelling around, we do the translations, waiting and form filling and, then take you for the marriage ceremony and, finally translate your certificate. As off October 2011 the age ban has been overturned and reverts back to 18 for those applying for UK visas. Thai nationals will still require parents consent up to 21. Please note delays due to closure of British consulate and floods in Bangkok

Passport renewal UK citizens

Please note major changes are due from late summer 2011 - suggest consider updating now certainly if less than six months remaining. Not having to find a credit card or getting it returned from Hong Kong (where it has to be sent) as something was wrong, we do it all. Allow at least 8 weeks before expiry of your passport

Visa Runs

We offer a visa run service for aliens wishing to apply for another re-entry permit, please check that your passport has enough empty pages (minimum of 3), six months unexpired. Call in office to book and please bring your passport. Our runs are from 2,000 ฿

Registering a birth, death

Form filling, translations, trips to Bangkok, leave it to us. Obtain UK passport for a child (under 6) or passport renewal - again we have a full service BUT it now takes at least  8 weeks so allow time.
